We’re delighted to report that the run of our upcoming Alan Bennett double bill, Office Suite, will include a performance in aid of two remarkable charities.

The first is UK Friends of TOSE. TOSE is a care home for people with learning disabilities In Zimbabwe, and TOSE is a Shona word meaning ‘We all together’. The picture above is of a people carrier bought with money raised at the charity’s last fundraiser at the Abbey Theatre.

The charity provides care, therapy and rehabilitation for severely disabled people in Zimbabwe and support for their families and carers. It assists parents to care for their disabled family member and to farm, work and earn a living. It provides training for carers, teachers and professionals, and helps to integrate clients into mainstream schools.

The second charity is Herts Domestic Abuse Helpline. This is a free, confidential telephone service for anyone affected by domestic abuse. It receives around 2,000 calls each year from victims, concerned friends and family members, and work colleagues.

Their 40 well-trained volunteer call-takers work from home on a rota basis and are ready to listen non-judgmentally before signposting callers on to one or more of 180 organisations which can help. The helpline depends on donations in order to keep the service free to callers.

The Abbey Theatre is delighted to be supporting both these causes.
